Decision-tree bots (button menus) answer the 10 questions you program into them and nothing else. If your business gets few queries and they are all predictable, they are cheap and good enough. The moment a customer types something off-script, they get stuck.
You connect a model (GPT, Claude) to your site with your own code. It works, but you have to build and maintain: content ingestion, RAG, forms, dashboard, multilingual support, GDPR compliance, retention, alerts, billing. It is a project, not a product.
